It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, a sacred abode of Shiva, and is known for its healing properties. The temple complex comprises 22 temples, including the main shrine of Baba Baidyanath. The temple's history dates back thousands of years, with mentions in ancient Hindu texts such as the Shiva Purana and Skanda Purana. It is believed to be the place where Shiva healed the demon king Ravana, earning the name Baidyanath, meaning 'Lord of Physicians'.
