Varanasi
Uttar Pradesh
Varanasi (Kashi) is among the oldest continuously inhabited cities and one of the holiest for Hindus, set along the western bank of the Ganga. Pilgrims come for darshan of Kashi Vishwanath, the riverfront ghats and the daily Ganga Aarti.
Best season to visit
October to March offers cooler, more comfortable weather. Summers are very hot; the monsoon raises the river level.
Safety & practical notes
Old-city lanes are narrow and crowded, keep elders assisted and belongings secure. Use official boat operators, avoid touts promising VIP darshan, and confirm timings on official portals.
